T-Mobile announced Friday morning that it will soon sell the Gear VR, Samsung’s virtual reality headset, directly to consumers in its retail stores. It’s the first time – at least to our knowledge – that Samsung’s headset has arrived in a wireless carrier store.
The Gear VR will cost $99, the same price that consumers will pay from other retailers such as Best Buy. It’s the first of Samsung’s Gear VR headsets to support the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, in addition to other handsets such as the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. The earlier model, the Gear VR Innovator Edition pictured above, was heavier and only supported the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. It launched after the first model, which only supported the Galaxy Note 4.
T-Mobile will begin stocking the Gear VR online and in stores on Nov. 27. No word on whether or not you’ll be able to try it before you buy one, but we’ve always been impressed with Samsung’s Gear VR and think you will be, too.
