Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow coming to Nintendo 3DS eShop

During the Nintendo Direct presentation this evening, the big N delivered some excellent news for old-school Pokemon fanatics. The entire first generation of Pokemon games will be made available on the Nintendo 3DS eShop.

That’s Pokemon Red, Pokemon Blue and Pokemon Yellow in good old fashioned black and white just like you remember them from way back in 1998. You’ll be able to catch all original 152 Pokemon, including Missingno and Mew, and the only major difference is that you won’t be needing the Game Boy Link Cable to battle and trade with your friends.

The Nintendo 3DS’ Internet connection has been tweaked to handle all multiplayer interactions.

All three games will be released on the Nintendo 3DS eShop on Feb. 27, the same day they released in Japan back in 1996. For me, I’ve never been about pursuing the latest Pokemon. It’s always been a pure nostalgia trip for me, and Nintendo has made that trip into the past so much easier.

Now, for life’s biggest question: Charmander, Bulbasaur, or Squirtle?
