Roku plans on taking a different approach to Black Friday this year. In addition to discounting its existing lineup of set-top boxes, the company is also going to introduce a new streamer that’ll sell for just $25. And you thought Google’s Chromecast was dirt cheap.
Roku’s lineup of streamers is one of the strongest on the market, giving users access to over 3,000 channels. The company’s new box, Roku SE, will run Roku OS 7, which is the latest version, and offer 1080p video streaming. If you’re looking to jump into the world of streaming, Roku’s new device might actually be a better option than Google’s Chromecast, which is $35.
Consumers will be able to pick up the Roku SE in the U.S. through the company’s website and at select national retailers beginning Nov. 26; after Black Friday weekend, the SE will go up in price to $49.99, which means you’re getting a 50 percent discount if you buy the device when it’s on sale.
In addition to discounts on the Roku SE, the company said there will also be special Black Friday deals on the Roku 3 and Roku streaming stick, though no further details were shared.
