Gear VR 9

Samsung’s new Gear VR headset, the first to support the Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6, is now officially available for pre-order from Best Buy for $99. The headset is also Samsung’s “first” prime-time Gear VR product, following in the footsteps of a couple of “Innovator Edition” models that were also sold through Best Buy. It’s 22 percent lighter than its predecessor, features a new trackpad and should be more comfortable.

The Gear VR comes preloaded with 360-degree virtual reality content and 3D movie trailers. Users can also install virtual reality games, which can be controlled either with the headset or a gaming remote, Netflix, Vimeo, Samsung Milk VR and more. It’s certainly the most impressive offering in the space right now, at least for folks who own one of the aforementioned headsets and want a taste of the future of virtual reality. $99 is a small price to pay for all of the content that’s currently available.

Hit the source to pre-order yours now. Unfortunately, Best Buy doesn’t say when the units will ship, though we doubt you’ll have to wait very long.

Update: An earlier version of this post said the Gear VR will come with a free 16GB microSD card from Best Buy. Samsung reached out to inform us that Best Buy’s site was incorrect, it will not come with a 16GB microSD card.
