The teaser image popped up on Weibo this weekend where it was spotted by NoWhereElse editor Steve Hemmerstoffer, who has a talent for leaking new smartphones. The HTC One X9 seems to sport a design that’s somewhere between the A9 and its older models. It features a similar frame while moving the camera to the top left corner. HTC also replaced the physical home button with front-facing speakers.
The teaser mentions Dolby Audio, a smooth touch back, a powerful camera and a sharp display. Hemmerstoffer rattles off some possible specs as well, including a 5-inch Quad HD display, a Snapdragon 820 or MediaTek Helio X20 chip, a 23-megapixel camera, a 3500mAh battery, 4GB of RAM and expandable storage.
We’re not really sure where any of those specs come from, though like we said Hemmerstoffer does have a pretty good track record. Still, we’d treat this entire rumor with a healthy dose of salt for now. It seems weird that HTC’s next big smartphone wouldn’t feature a fingerprint reader, at least given the one on the A9 works so well. If the HTC One X9 turns out to be real, it may be a flagship in some markets. Otherwise, we’re still expecting the M10 to serve as the company’s next top-tier device.
