Film Fondue: This is how Deadpool spent his Halloween

by Brandon Russell | November 7, 2015November 7, 2015 8:00 am PDT

Star Wars: The Force Awakens. That’s all you need to know about this week. We didn’t expect any new footage to get released, but Disney decided to drop a new international trailer anyway. And what a trailer it was, filled with fresh footage and plenty of new information about the film’s new characters. If you want to be fresh going into the movie, definitely don’t watch the trailer. But I’d recommend giving it a watch anyway.

Outside of that, the first trailer for Warcraft hit, and we got the chance to review Spectre ahead of its release this week. Spoiler: It’s good, but not amazing. What’d I tell you? Mission: Impossible has surpassed the Bond series in terms of quality.

Finally, some new Batman v Superman rumors hit, while the first details of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them were released. Meanwhile, the very first pictures of Benedict Cumberbatch from the set of Doctor Strange began to circulate, giving us a good look at the actor as the mysterious character.

Michael Stuhlbarg joins Doctor Strange

It hasn’t been made official, but The Hollywood Reporter says Michael Stuhlbarg, who played Apple engineer Andy Hertzfeld in Steve Jobs, is going to join Doctor Strange. Filming for the Marvel movie has actually begun already, so it could be that Stuhlbarg is getting a smaller role. Still, his involvement adds to an already packed cast, with stars like Benedict Cumberbatch, Rachel McAdams and Tilda Swinton already involved. [HollywoodReporter]

Wolverine in X-Men Apocalypse

He wasn’t supposed to be involved, but a new report claims Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine will show up in X-Men Apocalypse. What will he be doing? And how much screen time will he get? If he’s only involved with reshoots, it sounds to us like he was a last minute addition, meaning he’ll get one or two scenes at most, but I suppose we’ll have to wait and see. This one hits theaters on May 27, 2016. [ComicBook]

Hotel Transylvania 3 gets the green light

Shortly after Hotel Transylvania 2 hit theaters, Sony was quick to announce a third movie in the surprisingly delightful franchise. And a release date has been set, too: Sept. 21, 2018. Well, OK, not exactly soon, but soon-ish. I mean, it’s almost 2016 for crying out loud. Even if you don’t like Adam Sandler, Hotel Transylvania is a good time, and features some spectacular visuals. Wonder Woman adds Nicole Kidman

The Wrap reports Nicole Kidman is set to join Wonder Woman, which is currently set for a June 23, 2017 release. It’s unclear what role she’ll play, but speculation pegs her as Hyppolyta, who is the Queen of the Amazons and also Wonder Woman’s biological mother. That actually sounds like a perfect fit for the respected Hollywood actress, and a great way to add more star power to the comic book world. [TheWrap]

This is how Deadpool spent Halloween

Deadpool took time out of his busy schedule of fighting bad guys to hang out with a bunch of little kids. And, wow, is it hilarious. Ryan Reynolds posted the video to his personal YouTube account, showing the actor in costume and in full Deadpool character. Seriously, how he talks to these little kids is shocking, but not at all surprising considering THIS IS HOW DEADPOOL ACTS. Just watch the video to see what I mean.

New synopsis for Batman v Superman

A cinema chain over in the U.K. allegedly posted a fresh synopsis for Batman v Superman, shedding a bit more light on the events set to take place in the film. We don’t know if this is official or just some clever marketing, but it says that Lex Luthor will be a key manipulator in the fight between Batman v Superman. We kind of already expected him to fit that role anyway, but now we have confirmation (sort of). [Latino-Review]

The Hateful Eight trailer #2

Hate him or love him, Quentin Tarantino is back with another movie, which hits theaters on Dec. 25. I’m a big fan of his movies, and particularly love the sharp dialog, so I’ll be there on opening day when The Hateful Eight is released. And, come on, it has Kurt Russell and Samuel L. Jackson, two grisly veterans who look better than ever. Check out the trailer above to see just how beautiful this Western looks.

The Good Dinosaur gets a fresh clip

I already know The Good Dinosaur is going to be one of Pixar’s saddest movies EVER, and that’s saying a lot considering the movies in the studio’s library. I mean, just watch the trailer and you’ll understand. In this new clip, we get a touching scene between Arlo and his dad, which you just know is buildup for what will no doubt be the death of the patient and loving father. I’m tearing up just thinking about it.

A few lucky outlets had the opportunity to visit the Deadpool set while the movie was still filming, and Collider in particular revealed a boatload of new information. ‘Kung Fu Panda 3’ trailer is full of more panda shenanigans

What I find most enjoyable about the Kung Fu Panda 3 trailer isn’t the incredible visuals, or even the ensemble cast of voice actors. What makes this franchise so fun is how it never takes itself too seriously, and perfectly uses the fumbling personality of Jack Black as the goofy panda Po. This is the type […]

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them—Here are the first magical photos

Entertainment Weekly has provided a first look of J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, with several pictures of the gang on the film’s set. It’s all very Harry Potter-y, as you’d expect from the prequel, and it has a very throwback feel, capturing the more classic dress and style from the 1920s. […]

‘Batman v Superman’—This is how Batman plans to beat Superman

Let’s face it: If Batman and Superman were to fight, it would be no contest. Superman is an alien being who has incredible strength, speed and the power of flight. Batman, meanwhile, uses cunning, hand-to-hand combat, and his infinite wealth to help him fight crime. So it stands to reason if Superman really wanted to, he’d […]
