AT&T won’t be the only U.S. carrier to offer the new BlackBerry Priv. Verizon on Friday revealed the Android-powered device will hit its airwaves soon, though no pricing or exact release date was given. It’s unlikely the device will be any cheaper than it is on AT&T ($249 with a contract, or $699 off-contract), though we’ll have to wait and see. One thing you can count on is plenty of Verizon branding plastered on the device.
With Verizon jumping into the mix, it makes the Priv available to many more customers, which is a good move on BlackBerry’s part. It was always strange that AT&T would be the only carrier to offer the Priv, but it looks that that exclusivity was timed. There’s no telling what Verizon means by soon—it could be a month, or it could be several—but you can bet we’ll be all over it once the Priv is officially on Big Red.
We’re in the middle of testing the Priv, so hang tight for a full review. In the meantime, you can check out a hands-on we did of the device, with some key facts to know before you decide to buy BlackBerry’s best device in years.
