Apple TV gets App Store features that should have been there at launch

For reasons that are still relatively unclear to me, Apple is updating the App Store for the Apple TV with new features that probably should have been there at launch. If you listen to the TechnoBuffalo Show podcast, you probably already know that I decided to return my Apple TV just a few days after owning it. The experience felt incomplete to me and, I guess I was partially right.

Apple recently added a new Categories section to the Apple TV, which allows you to break down apps by listing into two categories: Games and Entertainment. I assume new categories are on the way, and I guess it wasn’t available at launch because the app selection was relatively limited. Still – I think the user experience should have been as complete as possible, at least if Apple wanted users like myself to get off to a positive start. The recent addition of the categories page comes just days after Apple added a Top Charts list, too, which also wasn’t there when I first bought the Apple TV.

This just goes to show that, perhaps, it might be best to wait a bit longer until Apple has fully filled out the App Store and the experience it wants user to have. Maybe I’ll revisit the Apple TV in a few months.
