That desert planet in all the new Star Wars trailers and images, as you may already know, is not Tatooine, the home planet of Luke Skywalker, but rather a new desert planet called Jakku. It’s also a major connecting point between the original trilogy and the new movies.
The Battle of Jakku, one of the maps in Star Wars Battlefront, will serve as somewhat of a prequel to The Force Awakens, the upcoming Star Wars film. The Battle of Jakku took place between Imperial remnants and the re-forming Republic, and one of the results was the Republic taking down a Star Destroyer called the Inflictor. That Star Destroyer is the one we see Daisy Ridley’s character, Rey, spelunking into in the most recent trailer.
While Battlefront isn’t exactly what you’d call plot heavy, you can take part in bringing down that Star Destroyer. This is a neat way to connect the game to the movies and bring fans into the experience, and it feels like a meaningful addition rather than just a simple promotional element, though that is certainly an aspect, too, since pre-orders get access to the map a week earlier than the rest of us.
You’ll get a chance to take down the Inflictor yourself when Star Wars Battlefront releases for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Nov. 17.
