Blizzard job posting hints at re-release of classics like StarCraft, Warcraft III, Diablo II

Could Blizzard be prepping to re-release some games from their more classic catalog? A new job posting seems to suggest that’s the case.

The developer has listed a call for a Senior Software Engineer. The second line of the job title? “Classic Games.”

The description indicates that Blizzard is “restoring” their classics “to glory.” Here’s how it opens up.

Compelling stories. Intense multiplayer. Endless replayability. Qualities that made StarCraft, Warcraft III, and Diablo II the titans of their day. Evolving operating systems, hardware, and online services have made them more difficult to be experienced by their loyal followers or reaching a new generation.

We’re restoring them to glory, and we need your engineering talents, your passion, and your ability to get tough jobs done.

This Engineer position seems poised to bring these old games to more playable forms on current operating systems. Even further, as the description indicates, the Engineer will need to implement and curate “features new and old.”

This posting could be little more than one meant to keep Classic Games playable, or it could be the start of bringing Classic Games back up to modern standards.

I’m excited for either, quite frankly.
