Konami closes Kojima Productions, lays off staff – report

Kojima Productions

It’s all over folks. Done! Kaput! We’ve heard rumors of Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima leaving Konami and even saw pictures of his flippin’ goodbye party! But Konami retorted by saying he was just going on vacation after wrapping up the long development of Metal Gear Solid V.

The latest development comes from 3D Realms veteran George Broussard, a man who often delivers the bad news of massive layoffs, who claims his inside sources all point towards the Kojima Productions Los Angeles studio being totally shut down and all of its staff being laid off. It’s still a rumor at this point, but given recent developments, signs are not looking good.

But, hey! You know! Maybe this is just another misunderstanding, and all 35 of them are on vacation as well! If any corporate body were to be so disrespectful and lie about such a large loss of employment, though, yikes. We’ll just have to see what kind of response we get from this one. Not saying it’s going to happen. Maybe Konami is going to see the light and acknowledge at least one of the thing’s that has happened this past year in the coming weeks.

If this is the last we see of Kojima Productions Los Angeles, I’ll just have to say thanks for your hard work at making one of the best games of the year. It’s a shame that a Japanese corporate power struggle on the other side of the Pacific Ocean had to directly affect you after doing such a dedicated job.

Best of luck finding new work. In the meantime, we still have yet to see how Konami plans to move forward with video games, if it plans to at all. You can’t leave us yet! I still need Azure Dreams as a PSOne Classic!
