YouTube update makes it easy to skip through videos on Android

YouTube is finally adding a feature that it probably should have offered years ago. The streaming service’s latest Android update appears to include fast forward and rewind buttons, along with a few other tweaks.

The new controls are already rolling out to some people. Once the update hits, you should see fast forward and rewind buttons appears at the center of the screen on either side of the pause/play icon. Tapping the new buttons will jump forward or backwards in the video by 10 seconds at a time.

If you really want to jump around in a YouTube video, you’re still better off using the traditional scrubber at the bottom of the screen. But if you need more precise controls, these new buttons will be great.

Android Police notes that the update also fixes a few small bugs, and changes the design a bit. The icons look a little smaller overall, and a few have even been completely redesigned.

The newest version of YouTube (version 10.42) should be rolling out now, though if you don’t feel like waiting Android Police also got its hands on the official APK. We’re not sure when to expect an iOS equivalent, though hopefully that won’t take too long either.
