Preacher, based on the beloved Vertigo comics, gets its first trailer from AMC

Last night during the most recent episode of The Walking Dead, AMC aired a trailer for their next big crack at the comic book world’s transition to television. Preacher received its first trailer.

Preacher comes from DC’s Vertigo house, unlike The Walking Dead which calls Image home. This crazy series ran from 1995 to 2000, with more than 60 issues and a few specials over the course of its run. It’s actually one of my favorites, for whatever that’s worth.

Written by Garth Ennis, Preacher is about Jesse Custer, a small town preacher possessed by the offspring of an angel and demon named Genesis. This possession makes Custer supposedly more powerful than God, and the Preacher goes on a mission across America to find the missing supreme deity.

There’s even an Irish vampire named Cassidy, who we see at the very end of the trailer.

Yeah, it’s nuts, I love it.

Preacher will air in 2016. We’ll have more on the show as it comes.
