Samsung UN85JU7100 85-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV

$8,999.99

Order This From Amazon

After taking a break last year from starting my list with over priced televisions, I’m back!

4K is starting to show up in more locations, and it’s time you enjoyed it on as big a screen as possible. With a 240MHz refresh rate, four HDMI ports and built-in apps, you’re going to get a lot of crisp, clear entertainment out of this set. And don’t forget, Samsung now sells an upgrade kit each year that will allow you to keep your TV up to date as new features are added.

If you’re going to do 4K, you may as well do it big.

15-Inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display

$1,999.00

Order This From Amazon

The MacBook Pro with Retina Display is easily one of the best looking laptops we’ve ever seen. If your loved one works in the graphic or video fields, they will definitely appreciate the Retina Display as they won’t have used anything quite like it before while working away from their desktop.

Even if you’re thinking about picking this up for someone heading off to, or already in, college, they’re still going to appreciate just how wonderful everything looks as they work on projects, or kick back and enjoy some Netflix on the weekends… they certainly wouldn’t be up late watching anything on a school night.

Synology DiskStation 2-Bay (2x 2TB NAS Drives) Network Attached Storage

$399.99

Order This From Amazon

As we live more and more of our lives digitally, the need for more storage, or to back up what we already have, is becoming paramount. Why not solve an entire home worth of issues in one swoop?

The Synology DiskStation series is meant for the home, and once you plug this into your router you, or whomever you gift it to, will be able to access it from every computer no matter what operating system you’re using. Have multiple Macs that need Time Machine? This can handle it. Want to store all of your Windows Media files somewhere centralized? Done. A NAS is a great item for any home with serious computer use going on.

Anki OVERDRIVE Starter Kit

As a child of the 1970s, slot car sets were all the rage for a long time, but now they have been updated into the modern era. The Anki OVERDRIVE Starter Kit features track and two cars that can be controlled from your iOS or Android device and let you do battle on virtual battlefields. This isn’t just about making it around the track – and eventually using a pencil eraser to clean muck off of your slot cars – but instead is car racing for the 21st century.

And don’t worry, there are also expansion sets for your loved ones to make even larger and more elaborate tracks as well as more cars they can purchase.

Roku 4

Roku upped its game this year and finally launched a 4K version of its popular set top streaming box.The new Roku 4 is the company’s most expensive model yet at $129.99, and that may seem silly to choose it over the lower priced Roku 3 as not that much 4K content is out yet, but you also have to consider this would be future proofed for several years to come.

Audophiles will also rejoice that their requests have been heard and an Optical Digital Audio Port has also been added.

The Roku has been my personal go to streaming device for years now, and the Roku 4 has only made that experience that much better.

Gifts Under $100

Amazon Prime

It might seem odd to give a membership as a gift to a service that allows people to get things they purchase that much faster, but there is so much more to Prime.

Not only will they get free two-day shipping, but they will also get access to over 1 million free songs to stream, movie and TV show streaming, unlimited photo storage and free books they can “borrow” from the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library. The service is so much more about shipping now, and it actually can be a useful service to just about anyone.

The unlimited two-day shipping doesn’t hurt, of course.

Back to the Future: The Complete Adventures Limited Edition Blu-ray Set

The Back to the Future trilogy is one of the most popular ever filmed, and with Oct. 21, 2015 having been the day the time travellers visited in Back to the Future Part II, this year marks a special occasion for fans of the series.

To mark this special date, a new limited edition Blu-ray set was released that includes not only the three movies and extensive bonus features, but it also includes the complete animated series that continued the adventures of Doc, Marty and the Brown children, Jules and Verne.

The Blu-ray set also includes codes for digital downloads, and is available on DVD if you prefer.

Gifts Under $50

Anker PowerCore Plus A1310

Everyone can use a top up to their gadget’s power now and again. Whether it be a day at an amusement park, or a long haul flight, power drains happen and it’s always handy to have a bit of extra juice with you.

The Anker PowerCore Plus offers 10050mAh of juice, but as opposed to just being a nice sized battery, it also provides Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 technology which means compatible devices will charge that much faster.

When the PowerCore Plus is fully charged you can expect it to charge an iPhone 6 almost four times, the Galaxy S6 three times and an iPad Air almost one full charge. This is definitely something any gift recipient would appreciate.

7-Inch Fire Tablet

Amazon broke through an amazing price barrier with its new 7-inch Fire tablet. For just $49.99 you can give anyone a tablet without too much hesitation. Thanks to a special promotion you can even enter the code FIRE6PACK at checkout and get six of them for the price of five. Why not get one for everyone on your gift list this year?

True, the Fire may not be the most powerful tablet out there, but for casual use around the home, taking advantage of Amazon Prime benefits and more, it’s hard to beat.
