There’s been no formal announcement of a solo Batman movie starring Ben Affleck, but that’s not stopping rumors about the film’s plot. According to JoBlo, Warner Bros. wants to introduce the Red Hood to the big screen, with Jason Todd filling the shoes of the anti-hero.
The untitled Batman flick is rumored to take inspiration from A Death in the Family and Batman: Under the Hood, wth Jason Todd working to frame Batman for his crimes. Apparently the seeds for such a movie are going to be planted in Batman v Superman, the first clue of which is when Bruce Wayne receives a newspaper clipping that says, “You let your family die.”
Meanwhile, the Batman v Superman trailer also shows Robin’s suit, with a loving note from the Joker, adding credence to the A Death in the Family storyline. These aren’t just included in the movie to make Batman sad; director Zack Snyder has included the clues to set up the later Batman movie, which we’ve heard is going to turn into a trilogy. Ben Affleck has already said he’s open to directing, and he’s allegedly writing the script as we speak with the help of comic writer Geoff Johns.
In the Under the Hood storyline, Jason Todd is murdered by the Joker and is resurrected by Talia al Ghul in the Lazarus Pit. However, he comes back as a more spiteful, vengeful person, and soon assumes control over various gangs throughout Gotham City. It’s curious Warner Bros. would explore this storyline considering its poor critical reception.
Additionally, Jared Leto’s Joker is expected to feature prominently in Batman’s solo outing, while Nightwing is also rumored to be in the movie.
Nothing has formally been announced, and if things are currently in the early stages right now, we shouldn’t expect anything to come out for a few years at the earliest.
