NieR: Automata gets screens and an action-packed trailer

by Eric Frederiksen | October 30, 2015

Some details about the upcoming NieR sequel slipped out this week, including its title, NieR Automata.

Now, we have official screens and a trailer to accompany that information. The trailer is classic Platinum Games – you can tell at a glance that the people behind games like Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance made this.

The game has you fighting as an android named 2B attempting to reclaim the earth for humans from living machines, wielding some pretty intimidating swords. The action in the trailer in intense, and the music is haunting, and that makes it all the more disappointing that we don’t even have a shade of a release date for this game, though E3 2016 will likely yield more information in the regard.

The trailer ends with the words “Work in Progress,” so a lot of what we see in this trailer is conceptual. It definitely looks like gameplay footage, but art, music, and story elements could change, right down to the character’s name. Will it be 2B, or not 2B? That’s the question.

I’m so sorry.
