As part of Empire’s spread for Suicide Squad this past week, the magazine, via director David Ayer, also revealed four unique covers, each of which showcase important characters to the film’s plot. You have Joker and Harley Quinn, as you’d expect, but we also get terrific shots of Deadshot (Will Smith) and Enchantress (Cara Delevingne), who we still haven’t learned much about.
There have been multiple rumors claiming Enchantress is the actual antagonist of the film, while Joker is a kind of peripheral manipulator. Meanwhile, it was revealed there will be a more intimate relationship between Deadshot and Harley Quinn, the latter of whom we will see try and break free of Joker’s influence.
The covers don’t reveal anything new, but they are the best shots yet of each individual character. I’m still not quite sold on Jared Leto’s more European techno look, but if anyone can do crazy, Leto can. The other characters, meanwhile, look more or less as they do in the comics, so there isn’t much to say.
While it’s awesome to see so much attention focused on Suicide Squad, we have to remember the movie doesn’t come out until August 5, 2016, which is about 9 months from now. There are some huge movies coming out over the next few months, so we can probably expect to see another trailer sometime soon.
