Nintendo has sold 21 million amiibo around the world

by Joey Davidson | October 29, 2015

In case there was ever any doubt, what with sites and fans dedicated to monitoring shipments and stock, Nintendo’s line of amiibo are selling pretty well. The company revealed that more than 21 million of the figurines have now been sold worldwide.

This news comes from Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima. He spoke to press and investors during a smaller, Japanese briefing that focused on amiibo and the company’s upcoming smartphone plans.

Nintendo introduced the amiibo at E3 in 2014. The figures went on to release in waves, and the first batch hit in November of 2014. They’ve sold more than 21 million units in less than a full calendar year.

These numbers clearly indicate that the amiibo are a rousing success. Nintendo will certainly continue with creating and selling them, though I hope they find even more clever uses for them in games.

How many amiibo do you have? Have you avoided the craze entirely?
