Quantic Dream returns to PlayStation with new game, Detroit

David Cage and his team at Quantic Dream, the studio behind Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls, are back with another technologically impressive bit of interactive fiction. During Sony’s Paris Games Week press conference on Tuesday, Cage introduced his newest game simply titled Detroit.

This game tells the story of Kara, an android who Quantic Dream created as a tech demo back in 2012 on the PlayStation 3. Cage really looks like he wants to pick up exactly from where the ending of Ex Machina left us hanging. Kara, an AI unit that is unrecognizable to those who are unaware of her true nature, breaks out from her factory and begins to explore life as a human.

I wonder if she killed a Weasley in the process of her escape. Will we be able to stab Oscar Isaac using Quantum Dream’s typical Quick Time Events?

Cage states that it is not a game about being an AI, but rather, it is a game about the idea of “Becoming Human,” the project’s tagline.

We didn’t want to do another story on AI (there are already so many great ones), we wanted to talk about what it means to be human and what it would be like to be in the shoes of an android discovering our world and their own emotions…

Detroit will be released exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
