Obviously, you can’t go wrong with Resident Evil 4, even if the PlayStation 3 version isn’t held in the highest regard. If you have never played it before, I don’t know what to tell you. There might be no hope.

Along with Resident Evil 4, the Resident Evil HD Remaster is probably the best release in the series from the last decade. The same goes for Resident Evil Revelations HD, which is the most solid of the modern games that follow in 4‘s lofty shadow.

And even though I’ve mostly forgotten about it, I sort of remember liking The Evil Within, Bethesda’s team-up with Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami and his studio Tango Gameworks. It’s a solid attempt at recreating the tension of Resident Evil 4, but that’s pretty much all it does well: live off the reputation of the game that came before it.

As always, the classics are worth checking out, and I’ll finally be picking up the original Resident Evil Director’s Cut at that price. There’s also Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, because who doesn’t love vampires and RPGs?

And if you’re one of the five people who hasn’t played The Walking Dead yet, you need to get on that quickly.

Again, it’s not the best sale because my guess is you probably already own everything that is worth snagging up. These games go on sale quite often. I hope you heeded my advice and bought Castlevania last week instead.
