If you missed out on new Apple TV pre-orders, you can simply walk into an Apple store this Friday and pick one up in person. Of course, that will actually involve you having to get in your car, driving to a nearby Apple store, and verbally announce to a Genius that you want to buy an Apple TV. But it sometimes beats waiting for UPS to show up.
If you don’t mind the extra wait, standard shipments should begin arriving early next week (and maybe this weekend if you’re really lucky). Apple stores will reorganize displays as it makes way for the new set-top box, 9to5Mac said. There’s unlikely to be any lines at your local Apple store, but I’d bet these things will sell out pretty quick, so better to go early in the morning.
The new Apple TV will retail for $149 for the 32GB model, and $199 for the 64GB model. While a lot of the core functionality of Apple’s device will feel familiar to anyone who has used an older Apple TV, this year’s version is getting an interface overhaul, Siri integration, upgraded remote and access to an App Store—all in an attempt to completely dominate your living room.
Once we get our hands on a unit we’ll be sure to report back with our impressions.
