I still can’t quite get over how dark Jessica Jones looks; I mean that literally and figuratively. Not only will we see a more hardened superhero, but someone who goes to much darker depths emotionally than we’re used to seeing, especially in the recent Marvel universe.
That wasn’t the only big thing this week. There was also the little matter of the Star Wars trailer, which about destroyed the Internet. I can’t remember a trailer that has been so exciting (maybe Daredevil?), and it’s easy to see why hype is so high for the next Star Wars saga to kick off. We’re oh so close to that Dec. 18 release.
It was also Back to the Future week; Falcon revealed his bromance with Ant-Man will grow; Goosebumps kicked butt at the box office, and more! It was quite the week in geeky entertainment, reinforcing why I love this stuff so much. We also have a few awesome giveaways going at the moment, so enter to win now!
Harry Potter sequel coming soon
J.K. Rowling has written a Harry Potter sequel, and it’s set 19 years after the seventh novel. Unfortunately, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, as it’s being called, is going to be a play rather than an actual book. I suppose there’s always the possibility of it being made into a book, but, for now, you’ll only be able to see Harry Potter’s next adventure in the summer of next year. [Variety]
Star Wars trailers edited into one mega-trailer
Some wonderful human cut the two trailers (and the teaser) for Star Wars: The Force Awakens into a single piece of video, and it’s just the best. It gives you a fuller grasp of what’s at stake, and provides more quality looks at the new Star Wars universe. Finn and Rey and the stars here, but nothing beats Han and Chewie back in the Millennium Falcon. Dec. 18, 2015 can’t come soon enough.
Christopher McQuarrie brought to help with Rogue One
Christopher McQuarrie, who directed the most recent Mission: Impossible movie, has apparently been tapped to help “toughen up” the Rogue One script. We’ve heard all along that Rogue One is going to be a more visceral Star Wars movie, not much different than you average war film. So it makes sense the script would reflect the more realistic tone. McQuarrie did wonders for Mission: Impossible, and I can’t wait to see how he influences Rogue One. [Latino-Review]
Kingsman 2 already has a release date
Kingsman: The Secret Service was one of this year’s early surprises, combing terrific style with some amazing action. It’s no surprise, then, that 20th Century Fox already has it sights set on a sequel. No details are known at this point, and it’s not even clear who will write or direct, but if it’s anything like the first, it’s going to be a lot of fun and we’ll see it on screen on June 16, 2017.
Doomsday a no show in Batman v Superman
A while back we heard a rumor that claimed Doomsday would make a cameo in Batman v Superman. But according to someone who worked on the film, that’s not the case. An employee who helped with the movie’s visual effects straight up said he’s not in the film, but might appear in Man of Steel 2 or Justice League. OK, well that clears that up. The comments were made on Instagram. However, the post has since been deleted. [Batman-News]
Thor 3 production to star in June 2016
Marvel Studios announced the production for Thor will begin as early as June 2016, which is just a hop, skip and a jump away. Filming will take place in Australia, and possibly find Thor teaming up with Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk. Speaking of Hulk, once filming gets underway, you can bet there will be leaked set pictures everywhere, so we’ll be on the lookout for confirmation of Ruffalo’s involvement. [ComingSoon]
Star Wars breaks records
Following this week’s trailer debut, Lucasfilm said the trailer was seen a combined 128 million times in just 24 hours. Even better, ticket sales were through the roof, outpacing any movie ever. In the U.K. alone more than 200,000 tickets were sold in the first day. Theaters are going to be mighty crowded on opening day. I’m sure theater owners are pretty happy about that. Less than two months to go until the movie officially hits theaters! [StarWars]
Ben Affleck discusses possibility of directing solo Batman film
In a new interview with Total Film, actor Ben Affleck discussed how he might approach directing a solo Batman movie.
If I could make it work, yeah. Obviously that would be like a dream. The trick is, as to any movie, is to make sure that you—if you’re going to direct it—that you can make it good. You’ve got to have the right idea and the right take on it… Broadly speaking, it’s something I’d be open to, for sure. It’s a very exciting idea.
If Warner Bros. really is doubling down on Batman over the coming years, you can bet they’ll do everything in their power to ensure Affleck directs one of the upcoming solo movies. If not one, maybe the entire trilogy. [Latino-Review]

There were a lot of new releases this weekend, and they definitely shook up the top five at the box office.

As promised, Disney and Lucasfilm have released the third and final trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, giving us our best look yet at the mayhem that will ensue come Dec. 18. So far we’ve only been given brief glimpses of what’s to come—a stern look here, a frantic reaction there. But this trailer […]
Wow. That was some trailer, huh? Just two months before Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters on Dec. 18, and Disney has hit lightspeed in the hype department. We thought we couldn’t be anymore excited about the movie’s imminent arrival, and then yesterday’s trailer happened. Made up of almost entirely new footage, the newest […]
What a time to be alive, fellow Star Wars nerds. Last night we had the outstanding third trailer for the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and now we have an IMAX poster that I’ll be using as my phone’s wallpaper. The poster is a first in a series of four. I know that because my special […]
Marvel has been tightlipped about Daniel Brühl’s involvement in Captain America: Civil War. We know he’s appearing as Baron Zemo, but he hasn’t been seen in any promotional material, and finding a photo of him from the set has been hard to come by. That’s saying a lot, too, because there were a ton of […]
For most people, Oct. 21, 2015 will be just like any other Wednesday. For Marty McFly, however, it’s the day he landed in the future. 26 years ago, we had no idea what kind of crazy technology would be lining our pockets and filling our lives. But that didn’t stifle the imagination of Robert Zimeckis, who […]
Netflix has carefully crafted its library into a place people are starting to go first and foremost to see original content. This year alone we’ve seen shows like Daredevil, Wet Hot American Summer, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, BoJack Horseman, and many more. And the service even released its first full length movie, Beast of No Nation, earlier […]
Ant-Man was the underdog Marvel movie nobody expected to be good. Turns out it was one of the best films in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, and while most of the praise was thrown at the feet of Paul Rudd, it’s important we acknowledge the brilliant work done by director Peyton Reed. Reed actually took over […]

Before we get into the meat of today’s Hulu news, I just want to point out that the service is getting a new movie called My Dad’s a Soccer Mom. I don’t know what that is, and without looking up what the movie is about, I already know it’s going to be awful—hopefully in a […]
As we’ve seen in the lengthy Batman v Superman trailer released earlier this year, each superhero will be portrayed in a very different light. Superman, for example, will be regarded by people as a god, someone who has been sent to save humanity. Batman, meanwhile, is seen as a vigilante and menace, a real thorn […]
