Galaxy S7 to come in two different sizes with curved screens, rumor says

Samsung has a pretty reliable smartphone routine at this point: a regular-sized flagship phone early in the year followed by a phablet or two in the fall. But a new report claims the company could switch its strategy up pretty drastically with the Galaxy S7 next year.

According to Samsungviet, the Galaxy S7 edge and Galaxy S7 edge Plus are both set to launch at the same time early next year. That means no flat-screened flagship, at least not until later in 2016. Samsung will presumably still release a Galaxy Note 6 next fall for its power users.

This new strategy could actually work out pretty well for the company. Offering two new phones with the same design in different sizes makes a lot more sense from a consumer perspective, and it seems to work for Apple. The decision would also imply that Samsung believes its curved-screen smartphones really are the future, and not just another gimmick.

Beyond a curved display, the new devices are also expected to feature USB-C charging, upgraded processors and a new audio chip. Samsung may even offer its own pressure sensitive display to match Apple’s new 3D Touch.

Rumor has it the Galaxy S7 will be unveiled as soon as January 2016, though Samsung typically waits until Mobile World Congress a month later to break the news.
