ZenFone 3 to feature a USB-C reversible port

ASUS chairman Jonney Shih confirmed plans for the ZenFone 3 during an interview with Trusted Reviews this week. The device will likely be the company’s first to feature a reversible Type C USB port.

When asked about ASUS’ plans for the new USB standard, Shih didn’t hold back. “I think Type C is the way to go, frankly speaking,” he said. “You will see the answer when you see the ZenFone 3.”

He added that the company likes to stay ahead of its competition without pushing the envelope too far. Now that a handful of devices including the OnePlus 2 and the new Nexus lineup offer USB-C it may be the perfect time for ASUS to adopt the new technology as well.

The ZenFone 2 was officially announced at CES 2015 back in January, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see a new model unveiled early next year at the same show. Even so, it could be a while before the device actually launches. The ZenFone 2 didn’t actually arrive in the U.S. until May, though hopefully ASUS can speed up the process this time around.
