Microsoft now offering cheaper Surface Book with dedicated GPU

Ahead of the notebook’s official debut next week, Microsoft has added a more affordable Surface Book with an NVIDIA graphics processor to its lineup. Customers can now get a dedicated GPU for just $200 more than the cheapest Surface Book option.

Until now, the most affordable Surface Book with an NVIDIA GPU was priced at $1,899 — $400 more than the cheapest model, which has integrated Intel graphics. This option comes with 256GB of storage and 8GB of RAM.

Now buyers can pay $1,699 for a 128GB model with the same NVIDIA graphics chip. This option also offers the same 8GB of RAM, and an Intel Core i5 processor. What’s more, it’s currently in stock for launch day delivery on October 26 — unlike the other models.

Surface Books with dedicated GPUs will be better at things like graphics processing and video editing, and will allow users to play most of the latest games — so long as they don’t max out all the settings at play at the Surface Book’s 3000×2000 resolution.

This new Surface Book option doesn’t appear to be available from third-party retailers yet, but you can pre-order it from the Microsoft Store now. We don’t expect stock to be available for long — these machines have been selling like hot cakes — so move quickly if you want one.
