iOS 9 now on 61 percent of all iOS devices

iOS 9 is installed on a majority of iOS devices just a month after it was released. It’s an impressive feat for Apple, especially given that adoption rates for Android Lollipop, released one year ago, is still just nearing 25 percent adoption across all Android devices. It shows just how complicated the Android ecosystem can be with hundreds of OEMs and thousands of different devices.

According to Apple’s latest developer data, iOS 9 has a 61 percent install base as of October 19. The operating system was released in mid-September and achieved a 12.6 percent adoption rate in about 24 hours. The momentum may have slowed, but it’s still moving at a rapid clip. The older iOS 8 operating system is still on 30 percent of devices — update your phones, folks! — while 9 percent of iOS devices are running a version older than iOS 8.

This doesn’t take into consideration the various iterations of each operating system. iOS 9.1 was released on Wednesday, for example, and we don’t know how many folks have already updated to that version.
