“Valkyria of the Blue Revolution” trademarked by SEGA

Here’s a wonderful little surprise. A recent SEGA trademark hints at the return of fan-favorite strategy RPG Valkyria Chronicles in Japan under the name of “Aoki Kakumei no Valkyria.” Roughly translated, this is “Valkyria of the Blue Revolution.”

Other than a possible title, we are totally in the blue on what this trademark could be. It could be a new console game for the PlayStation 4 and PC, and, just as easily, it could be a free-to-play mobile game, pachinko, or slot machine. There’s just no telling with these Japanese game developers anymore.

The first Valkyria Chronicles was a sleeper hit on the PlayStation 3, and is still one of the best games of the past decade. How scary is it that we aren’t too far from it not being eligible for that title anymore? Valkyria Chronicles II and III were both released for the PSP, but only the first one was officially localized in the States.

Many thought SEGA had lost faith in the series, but the recent success of the PC port seemed to catch SEGA off guard. Could that success have lead to a proper sequel? We’ll have to wait and see.
