Firefly star washed his hands of Uncharted 4 after weird changes

Alan Tudyk, known to geeks everywhere as Firefly‘s Wash (or Dodgeball’s Steve the Pirate), was at one time a member of the cast of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, but that all changed after some modifications left the actor cold.

“I worked on Uncharted, the one that has yet to come out – I was doing a role on that. Really, I hadn’t seen [Nathan Drake voice actor Nolan North] since he and I had recorded years before,” Tudyk said in an interview with IGN.

“I liked it, they, umm, they fired, umm… I left, I quit! So, I didn’t like it,” he continues. “I left because they decided go to a different way with it, and so when they did that, when they changed the leadership, it made my contract null and void, and I was able to take that opportunity to walk away.”

Tudyk adds that he liked the experience and made some friends, though not with Naughty Dog. In spring of 2014, actor Todd Stashwick was set to play the game’s villain, and Amy Hennig, who had directed the previous two Uncharted games, was set to direct, but in April and May, the two parted with Naughty Dog very suddenly. Stashwick’s role was recast, and Hennig was rumored to have been forced out. Stashwick and North both appear in the web series Con Man, created by Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion.

To see so many cool names pushed away from the series is concerning, but what we’ve seen of Uncharted 4 looks – and sounds – stellar. We’ll know more when the game hits PlayStation 4 on March 18.
