‘Thor: Ragnarok’ will feature a whole lot of Hulk

by Brandon Russell | October 16, 2015

Well that was quick. Not long after a rumor hit about Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk joining Thor in Thor: Ragnarok, several big publications have begun corroborating the rumor. In fact, sources claim Ruffalo is this close to signing on the dotted line—the likelihood of him doing so are high. At this point, chances are Ruffalo and Marvel are simply finalizing negotiations before everything is confirmed.

Like last time, no plot details have been shared, but sources still say Hulk will play a substantial role in the upcoming movie. It’s unclear what the balance will be of Bruce Banner and Hulk, though if Marvel does pull from the Planet Hulk storyline, it’s unlikely we’ll see much of Banner at all.

What’s notable about Ruffalo’s involvement in a standalone movie is that this will be the first time we’ve seen him outside of Avengers. The only other actor who has yet to make an appearance in a standalone film is Hawkeye, though he’s actually going to appear in next year’s Captain America: Civil War.

It sounds like this will be Marvel’s preferred approach moving forward, mixing and matching characters in the MCU in standalone movies as we approach Avengers: Infinity War. Next year’s Civil War will be Marvel’s next big movie, followed by Doctor Strange later in the year, and then the studio will release three new movies in 2017, including Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man and then Thor: Ragnarok.

Hulk is one of Marvel’s most beloved characters, and Ruffalo’s interpretation has been spot on since he took over the reigns in the first Avengers. We can’t wait to see how he fits into Thor’s upcoming movie, which, it’s worth noting,  is said to take place primarily away from Earth and Asgard.

Thor: Ragnarok will hit theaters on July 28, 2017.
