DROID Maxx 2 leaked by Motorola with a removable back

Verizon isn’t expected to reveal the DROID Maxx 2 until its event on October 27, but the device is already popping up on Motorola’s website. A help page for the upcoming smartphone was spotted on Thursday, confirming one new feature.

The DROID Maxx 2 will pack a removable back panel with swappable shells. That means you’ll be able to switch the color and design on the fly. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like the battery is removable, though that shouldn’t be an issue considering the phone’s focus on battery life.

The new DROID is expected to be a Verizon-branded version of the Moto X Play. That should mean a hefty 3630mAh battery, a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a 21-megapixel rear camera, 2GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 615 processor.

We’ll be covering Verizon’s upcoming event live from New York, where we’re also expecting the company to unveil the DROID Turbo 2. The device will apparently feature a “shatterproof” 5.4-inch Quad HD display, a Snapdragon 810 processor and Moto Maker customization.

We’ll know more soon enough.
