The Star Wars Battlefront beta had 9 million players

9 million Rebel and Imperial soldiers took part in the Star Wars Battlefront beta test that ended earlier this week. That’s a lot of dead storm troopers.

DICE and Electronic Arts held a beta test for their upcoming shooter over the weekend and into the early week across PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. That’s the biggest beta yet for Electronic Arts and shows a healthy interest in the game.

Battlefront launches later this fall without a single-player campaign, something that turns off many players, but having a few days to demo the game more than likely turned a few undecided buyers over to the dark side.

I was able to spend a few hours with the game and there’s no doubt that it’s gorgeous and authentically Star Wars, though the Hoth battlefield is decidedly unbalanced in favor of the Imperial side. DICE has some work to do before the game releases, and this test gave them a good, heavy stress on the servers to make sure those are ready, and an idea of how players will play the game when it comes out so that they can do some last-minute balancing. I’m still undecided, but I had a great time with the game and I’m looking forward to seeing more.

Star Wars Battlefront is set to release on Nov. 17 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
