Star Wars Battlefront has no in-game voice chat on PC or consoles

Star Wars Battlefront will not have a voice chat system built-in. This goes for both the PC and console versions of the game.

With the PC platform, users are obviously open to use any third-party system they like. They can even use Origin’s in-client system to compensate. Chatting with randoms on servers? That’s out the window. Here’s EA indicating that in-game voice chat is out on the PC version.

Console versions have less in the way of options. There’s no in-game chat here either, but, given the nature of the consoles themselves, the only option for voice chat is forming parties. That goes for both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Here’s EA again talking about the lack of voice chat on the consoles.

Splatoon also lacks voice chat support. Gamers and fans argued that the missing feature was acceptable in Splatoon given the short match times and visual cues in the game.

I don’t think those same arguments can be made for Star Wars Battlefront. This is a shooter that needs communication when it comes time to defend specific points or focus fire on larger threats. Matches last much longer than they do in Splatoon, and communication is key.

Sure, you won’t hear the crazy kids and swearing psychos thanks to the absence of voice chat. However, you’ll also miss out on strangers who are looking to play the game the right way.

What do you think? Should this game have dedicated voice chat?
