Shin Megami Tensei is swinging back into full gear with an interesting spin-off title of the critical hit, Shin Megami Tensei IV. This Final game will use the same gameplay engine and take place in the same world, but it will feature an original story and characters and not follow in the footsteps of “Chaos” and “Law” like all the games before it.
That’s just one piece of information Producer Kazuyuki Yamai dropped over the weekend in the game’s first NicoNico LiveStream event. Shin Megami Tensei IV: Final will, as always, feature multiple endings based upon your decisions, but they will not be as black and white as the previous entry’s, taking a more “Neutral” path.
In addition to a new trailer, Yamai also confirmed that you won’t have to have played Shin Megami Tensei IV to enjoy the story. However, it will be full of references and even jokes that strangers will not understand.
Plus, Shin Megami Tensei IV is excellent! Why wouldn’t you have played it yet?
The game will feature over 450 demons and players will even be able to train human characters this time around. The protagonist is once again silent, as all Shin Megami Tensei protagonists should be, and Asahi is the game’s heroine. She is among the youngest characters to ever star in the series at the age of 15. All characters will use smartphones in the game, showing that despite how many demons Atlus adds to the series, it will always adhere to modern trends.
Shin Megami Tensei IV: Final will be released in Japan in Feb. 2016 for the Nintendo 3DS. No word on an English localization just yet, but this one isn’t too out of likelihood.
