Spotify Chromecast support goes live today — but read this first

Spotify on Monday officially added Chromecast to its iOS and Android applications on Monday. The support comes after a promise Google made just recently, when it introduced the new Chromecast during a press event in San Francisco and confirmed that Spotify was building support for the gadget.

There’s a catch, however.

The updates to iOS and Android only allow streaming to the new Chromecast, and don’t currently work with the first generation stick. The Verge said that Spotify does plan to bring support to the older streaming gadget “soon,” but we don’t know how soon that will actually be.

There may just be some sort of quality control issue, with Spotify wanting to make sure that users have the best experience possible, but it’s a bit upsetting for folk who are technically the “early adopters” of the first generation Chromecast. The update also technically enables users to cast content off to the new Chromecast Audio.
