Samsung’s new Gear VR is set launch next month, and it looks like the headset will offer at least one new killer app right off the bat. Hulu is prepping its own virtual reality experience complete with original 3D content.
Speaking to CNET, Hulu’s head of distribution Tim Connolly said the company is “ready to go” when it comes to releasing a VR app. The streaming giant may even produce new original TV shows specifically for virtual reality. Other options include modifying regular videos for the headset. For example, using Gear VR you could watch an episode of Seinfeld from inside Jerry’s apartment for a more immersive experience.
Netflix already offers its own Gear VR app, though the company hasn’t produced any new shows specifically for the virtual reality headset. Meanwhile, YouTube lets you watch 3D videos with Samsung’s headset, along with any Cardboard model.
Oculus previously promised to bring a handful of video services to Gear VR, including Twitch, Vimeo, Tivo, 20th Century Fox and a Facebook-branded app (probably for viewing 3D video). We can’t wait to try them all out once Samsung’s new headset finally arrives.
