Shovel Knight has seen nothing but good news since it first launched, but that hot streak had to come to an end at some point. Thankfully, that time has arrived over something that isn’t too detrimental with Yacht Club Games confirming that the Xbox One retail version of the game has been cancelled.

On the company’s official website, it states that the reasons for its cancellations are beyond anyone’s control.

With extremely heavy hearts, we’re sad to announce there will not be an Xbox One physical version this holiday. We really gave it our best effort, but unfortunately, because of publishing policies on that platform that are totally beyond our control, we couldn’t make it happen.

So, if you own an Xbox One and want to play Shovel Knight, you’ll just have to download it like the hundreds of thousands of other players who have thoroughly enjoyed it already. Trust me, you don’t really need that extra box on your shelf anyway.

Accompanying this news is word that the other physical versions for the PlayStation 4, Wii U, and Nintendo 3DS would be increased from $19.99 to $24.99. Several major retailers complained that $19.99 was too small for their premium shelves and said they would put it on a discount rack, or some such nonsense. At any rate, it’s a five dollar increase over the previous price, but if you pre-ordered it already, the retailer should honor that price.

These physical versions have also been delayed from Oct. 13 to Nov. 3.

It’s okay, Yacht Club Games. Sometimes, you just have to roll with the punches, or in this case, the light taps.
