Facebook pushing birthday videos instead of boring wall posts

Posting a quick “happy birthday!” on your friend’s Facebook page is probably the easiest way to get the message across, but soon the social network may start asking for a bit more effort. The Next Web reports that Facebook’s app is now prompting some people to record a quick video instead.

The option appears to be popping up in Facebook’s iOS app. The Birthdays page has been tweaked slightly to include a video camera icon along with one for Messenger. Tap the camera and you can record up to 20 seconds of video. Then you’ll have a chance to watch it yourself before posting it to your friend’s profile for the world to see.

It sounds like a fun alternative for anyone who’s bored of typing out birthday messages on Facebook, and it fits well with the company’s increased focus on videos. We’re guessing the new feature will eventually make its way to Android and desktop browsers as well.
