If your communication platform of choice is WhatsApp, a new update will make it super easy to back up your chat history, voice messages and more directly to Google Drive. There’s probably no good reason to backup your boring conversations with mom, but if for any reason you want to relive past memories, Google Drive will allow you to do so. Even better, you can quickly restore everything to new devices with just the press of a button.

The new feature should roll out to users over the next few months, so it’s going to be a slow process. When you have more than 900 million users, the rollout of big new features tends to take a while. If you do decide to use Google Drive as your backup of choice, everything will be encrypted, so nobody can go snooping into the conversations you had.

When the update does hit, you can decide to backup your data daily, weekly, monthly or not at all. No word on when iOS will get Google Drive backups, so it looks like this is only an Android affair for now.
