“Stay tuned” for Resident Evil 7, says Capcom, no new Devil May Cry

We all know Resident Evil 7 is going to happen. It’s just a matter of when and if it is going to get the franchise back on its feet. For now, Capcom is holding fans over with remakes, excellent remasters, and decent online shooters, but it would be short-sighted to say that this is the company’s long term plan for the series.

Capcom dropped another huge hint on the progress of Resident Evil 7, with Producer Masachika Kawata saying in an interview with Dengeki PlayStation that fans should “stay tuned” for more news.

“We’re currently not at a state to talk about it… but please stay tuned.”

So it is taking a while, but Capcom is working on it. It is just not ready to reveal it yet. Kawata did however claim that it was “preparing” to bring the series back to its horror roots, listening to fan feedback that claimed the spin-offs, and even Resident Evil 5 and 6 to a degree, set the series on an action path far removed from the original vision.

“Since there’s been more spinoff titles, I can see how it can be perceived in such a way. And of course I believe that we should produce titles that bring out the horror. I’m thinking about it and also preparing for it.”

As for other franchises, we all know that Mega Man is getting a serious overhaul behind the scenes, prepping him for his 30th anniversary, but what about Capcom’s other classic IP? Surely something must be in the works! If you are referring to Devil May Cry or an offline version of Dragon’s Dogma, then sorry. Producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi claims that neither series is getting anything beyond thoughts right now.

“They’re also things I’d like to personally do, but there are no plans.”

So, Capcom has plenty of Resident Evil spin-offs and remasters to pepper the landscape with before Resident Evil 7 takes a bite from the world’s neck, but not much else. What would you like to see from Capcom? I already know I want Breath of Fire III and Mega Man Legends 2 on PSN and a localization of Monster Hunter Stories, but as for original titles…

Nope, just Mega Man 11 and Resident Evil 7 are good enough for me now.
