Beats Pill Plus announced with fresh design and a new app

Beats unveiled a new speaker on Wednesday, marking the first addition to the Pill lineup since the company was acquired by Apple. The Pill Plus promises better sound quality and a modern design, along with a new mobile app for controlling the experience.

The new speaker falls somewhere between the original Pill and the Pill XL when it comes to size. It’s not exactly small, though it should still fit in most bags without an issue. The updated design flattens out some of the curves from the old pill-shaped speaker. This is said to give the device a more stable feel, and means easier access to the buttons up top.

The Pill Plus also boasts improved stereo sound. It packs a 12-hour battery, which takes three hours to charge up. It even features a hidden USB port, which you can use to charge your smartphone or any other device.

Alongside the new speaker Beats is launching a Pill Plus app for iOS and Android. You can use it to sync multiple speakers for an amplified sound or a true stereo setup. It will also make it possible for multiple people to control the music at once.

The Pill Plus and the new app are both set to launch next month. The speaker will cost $230, and you’ll be able to pick it up at the Apple Store, online or anywhere else Beats products are available.
