Verizon commits to support Samsung Pay in future software update

by Brandon Russell | October 6, 2015October 6, 2015 10:00 am PDT

Verizon on Tuesday announced that it will indeed support Samsung Pay later this year, with owners of the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge Plus and Note 5 all promised a “future software update.”

It’s unclear when the software update will actually arrive, but once it does, users will be able to use Samsung’s platform at any NFC and Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) terminal. We actually took Samsung Pay for a spin shortly after its launch here in the U.S., and it’s every bit as good as you’ve heard. It doesn’t quite have the massive support from banks that Apple Pay does, but it’ll grow in time, which means it’s certainly a force to be reckoned with.

If you have one of the supported devices and are on Verizon, you’ll no longer be left out of the Samsung Pay party. To get an idea of what the service is capable of, check out the video above.
