At Disney’s big D23 celebration this summer, we got an early sneak peak at a lot of footage from The Good Dinosaur, Pixar’s second movie in the past twelve months. And despite its turbulent production, it looks surprisingly good. While the character models are a little odd, the outdoor settings look phenomenal, and the buddy-buddy vibe from Spot and Arlo was very cute.
I’m telling you this because I know a lot of people are concerned about how The Good Dinosaur has presented itself thus far. In truth, the trailers haven’t really shed the movie in the best light, only giving us a general sense of what to expect. This latest trailer, however, gives us a much deeper look at the relationship between Spot and Arlo, and how they’ll lean on each other to survive their journey through the wild outdoors.
The trailer only scratches the surface of what we saw at D23, but what I can say is that The Good Dinosaur, like any good Pixar film, is going to be emotional. There was one scene in particular that we saw, which the trailer briefly hints at, that had me bawling my eyes out. And that was one scene! I’m cautiously optimistic about The Good Dinosaur, and hope it lives up to the high level that Inside Out set earlier this year.
