We had a feeling this was going to happen. Neither Sony nor Verizon Wireless would ever provide a solid launch date for the Xperia Z4v and now we know why: because the phone isn’t ever going to launch.
The Xperia Z4v didn’t make sense from the start. Sony decided to bump the specs of its Xperia Z4 to include a Quad HD display, which almost immediately made the global Xperia Z4 seem like the watered-down model (the opposite of the Xperia Z3v, which was more of an Xperia Z2 than an Xperia Z3, but I digress.) Then, during IFA, Sony said that it was focused on the Xperia Z4v for the U.S. market, even as it introduced the Xperia Z5 as its new flagship.
“Sony Mobile and Verizon Wireless have made the decision not to introduce the Xperia Z4v to the U.S. market,” a Sony spokesperson told TechnoBuffalo. “Sony remains dedicated to the U.S. market and aims to build a sound and stable business in this region. Verizon is a strategic partner as we continue having ongoing discussions together as part of our future portfolio.”
Given Sony’s past deals in the U.S., don’t hold your breath for Verizon Xperia Z5 either.
