Hey, by the way, that Transformers game next to no one is talking about? Yeah, Transformers: Devastation is releasing on October 6. Right, that’s next Tuesday.
I haven’t played the game. However, and I figured you guys would be cool with chatting about this, there are three major reasons why it has my attention.
First and foremost, it’s being developed by Platinum Games. This studio has pretty much dominated the recent landscape of Japanese action games. This team made Bayonetta, Bayonetta 2, The Wonderful 101, Metal Gear Rising and Vanquish. Essentially, when Platinum Games is involved with a game that’s set to be a third person action title, it has my attention.
Next, we have the look. Dig into the screenshots in the gallery at the head of this post. The game looks like the classic television series and subsequent flicks. That old cartoon vibe is hitting all the right notes for me. Looks wouldn’t be enough, but they certainly help bring the overall package together.
Finally, we have the writer attached. Andy Schmidt did the writing for Transformers: Devastation. Unless you’re into comic books, that name probably doesn’t ring any bells. He’s a solid writer, and he’s worked on the Transformers comics, as well as stuff like Annihilation, Secret War and more as an Editor for Marvel.
What scares me is that Activision isn’t talking about this one much at all. In fact, we’ll go weeks at a time where I’ll forget it even exists.
Yet, here we are, just a few days from its release. Transformers: Devastation is set to hit the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC platforms on October 6, 2015.
