Mega Man: Super Fighting Robot now available for free

As I always say, Capcom has no reason to make Mega Man 11 just yet. Not while the fans are cranking out grade-A freebies on their own. The latest Mega Man fan game to hit the net is Mega Man: Super Fighting Robot, lovingly named after the only lyric in the 90’s cartoon’s opening theme.

I’m sorry, I forgot “Fighting to save the world.”

Anyway, Mega Man: Super Fighting Robot is yet another throwback to the classic 8-bit generation, where the series found its genesis. If Mega Man 9, Mega Man 10, the Mega Man Legacy Collection, and the handful of other great throwback fan games aren’t enough to charge your nostalgia, then by all means, check it out for free over at the game’s official Facebook page.

I haven’t played it yet, but from what I can see in the trailer, it’s pretty standard for what Mega Man fan games have become. It has a few original mechanics, but doesn’t stray too far from the established formula. Instead, the success of these games can be judged by polish, original enemy sprites, and most importantly, the rockin’ NES soundtracks. Super Fighting Robot nails that last element perfectly.

Seriously, fan-developers. Stop being so awesome. We’ll never get a new official game while you keep up this pace.
