Unreleased South Park game discovered on old Xbox console

South Park beat the odds last year with a surprisingly fun licensed game called South Park: The Stick of Truth. We all know that licensed games are rarely up to the same standards as original titles, but one reason why it was such a solid critical darling was because South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone refused to make more video games unless the graphics looked exactly like the show.

South Park: The Stick of Truth does indeed look just like the show, but this smelly piece of Mr. Hankey that turned up on the NintendoAge forums and YouTube channel HappyConsoleGamer does not. The show’s hosts dug up an old Xbox dev kit from a random store out in the wild, and low and behold, what do they find on it? An old prototype of an unreleased South Park game.

Developer Buzz Monkey Games, which has since been absorbed into Zynga, was obviously looking towards The Simpsons: Hit and Run for inspiration with the driving, but it also seems to have a lot of smaller missions and a few of free roaming activities. It’s a rough looking game that obviously was very early in alpha when the plug was pulled, but something tells me the finished product wouldn’t have been that stellar.

It definitely wouldn’t have set at much higher standard than the old Nintendo 64 and PlayStation games. Ugh… I guess we’ll never know. The devs killed it faster than the show killed Kenny, and for a good reason too, it seems.
