Google Maps finally adds Apple Watch support

Apple Maps definitely isn’t the disaster it was a few years ago, but we still prefer Google Maps over Cupertino’s alternative. That’s why we were happy to learn that Google is finally bringing its mapping app to the Apple Watch.

Google pushed out the update this week. It includes turn-by-turn directions on your wrist for driving, walking, biking and public transit. The Apple Watch app will also offer up recent routes, in addition to quick access to your frequent destinations like Home and Work.

The new Google Maps app also includes a few improvements for iOS devices. You can compare the time it will take to get somewhere depending on how you travel. You can also pull up directions or call a business directly from a list of places. Finally, there are some unspecified bug fixes.

Google still has plenty of room to improve when it comes to Maps on the Apple Watch. For one, there’s no option to view a full map on your wrist using Google Maps. Plenty of the company’s other services are still missing from Cupertino’s smartwatch, too, so hopefully it won’t be too long before apps like Gmail and Hangouts get similar updates as well.
