Halo 5 live action trailer mourns the loss of Master Chief… again

I think it was back in 2007, my waning college year. Microsoft had the Xbox 360 out, and all I was doing was drinking mountains of Mountain Dew and getting excited for Mass Effect. Oh, and Halo 3 was also coming out, too. The company poured millions of dollars into wonderful trailers, making me believe that Master Chief was about to die a glorious hero’s death while retaking Earth for the humans.

We saw his compatriots mourn his loss, remember his heroism, and it was one of the most effective advertising campaigns ever.

Yeah, wasn’t true. Not one bit. Master Chief spent two or three whole levels on Earth before taking off into outer space again where he obviously very much survived. However, flash forward to 2015, the human race once again foolishly believes that Master Chief can be parted from this mortal coil. The latest live action trailer shows his compatriots mourning his loss, remembering his heroism, like its 2007 all over again.

Hey, I’m subliminally craving some Dew! Can someone mail me a can, please? We don’t have it in high demand out here in Japan. Come to think of it, I don’t think we even have Halo in high demand anymore either.

Microsoft is crying wolf, and I’m not biting. I kid though because I still like the Halo franchise, and I am enjoying watching it try to hang in there and evolve with the modern gaming sphere. I wish it all the best this holiday season because I think it’s going to need it.

Halo 5: Guardians launches for the Xbox One on Oct. 27.
