Galaxy Note 5 handsets on T-Mobile get Samsung Pay update

T-Mobile has begun rolling out a software update for the Galaxy Note 5 that adds Samsung Pay functionality ahead of its U.S. debut. The update is being distributed over-the-air, and it weighs in at just 30MB.

This update comes just days after AT&T rolled out an Android 5.1.1 update for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, which also added Samsung Pay support. The Apple Pay competitor is set to go live in the United States today following a beta test in late August.

Samsung Pay has been available in South Korea for just over one month now, and it has gotten off to a great start. Samsung revealed last week that almost 25,000 people were signing up to use the service every day.

Given that this is only a small software update, it shouldn’t take long to reach all Galaxy Note 5 users on T-Mobile. If you haven’t already received an update notification, you can check for the update manually from within the software update section of the Settings app.

We expect to see a similar update from other carriers in the U.S. soon.
