Samsung’s Gear S2 is already set to work with any device running Android 4.4 and up, but the company could have even bigger plans for its new smartwatch. A fresh report claims the device could also work with Samsung’s next Tizen-powered smartphone as well.
According to TizenExperts, Samsung is still fine tuning its new Gear Manager app for the upcoming Z3 Tizen phone. The software is apparently “functioning quite well and stable,” though there’s no guarantee it will be ready. With the Z3 and Gear S2 both set to launch next month, the company may be running out of time.
It’s almost surprising that Samsung’s Tizen-powered wearables don’t already work with its current Tizen phone. It should be relatively easy to get the software in sync considering it’s all based on the same operating system. Clearly it’s not that simple, though hopefully Samsung can find a solution.
The Z3 may turn out to be a pretty decent device, though it probably won’t be anywhere near a flagship-level device. We’re expecting a a 5-inch 720p display, a quad-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, a 2600mAh battery, an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter. If Samsung can offer the Z3 at a decent price with Gear S2 support it may stand a fighting chance against the competition.
